October 18th - Week Review

Highlights

We are continuing to work through our Number Sense Unit in Math.  We have looked at the concepts of Place Value, Expanded Form, Comparing and Ordering Multi-Digit Numbers and Regrouping.

In Science, we are continuing to learn about the Wetlands.  We are exploring different species that live in the wetland and the different adaptations they need to survive.  We will be beginning to create our own wetland creature and write about the different adaptations that it will need to survive.

This week students created a Poppy art piece in recognition of Remembrance Day coming up on November 11th.   The Poppy art will be displayed in our classrooms and around the school.

Today Grade 5 students were involved in the Student Vote.  The Grade 6’s came to our classrooms yesterday and told us about all the candidates and what they were promising to do for Canada and then the Grade 5’s were given the opportunity to go through the voting process.  Our school results will be posted next week.

The students have all been involved in the school production “The Show Must Go On”.  Students are in a different groups but if they are in the choir group, here are the links to the songs. Although this is primarily for the choir students, everyone can practice them if they wish.

Thank you to Mrs. Peterson for bringing in her tortoise on Thursday.  Mrs. Peterson brought in her pet to coincide with a student’s iProject on the topic.  iProjects are independent research topics in which the students put together some kind of presentation about something they are passionate about.  iProject presentations will continue for the next few weeks.

SVS Pumpkinella!

Get your family together and join in the fun for SVS's Pumpkinella! Design, carve or dress up a pumpkin to bring for display.  ONLY ONE DISPLAY PER FAMILY!

Bring your pumpkin to the DLC after school on Wednesday, October 30th or the morning of Thursday, October 31st from 8:20-8:40am.

The pumpkin may have a safer journey if they are not brought to school on the bus.  If you could add a tea-light to the center of your pumpkin, it will add to a special effect when placed in the gym.

Classes will tour  the gym throughout the day to enjoy your efforts. Pumpkins MUST be picked up to go home by Thursday between 4:00 and 5:00pm.  Any pumpkins left at school will be composted.
