Schools have received information from Calgary Board of Education Communications in regards to gatherings from now until Spring Break.

Please note:
Events including the school and regular staff population of the school MAY continue. This includes events such as after school clubs, practices etc. Schools with scheduled field trips may still continue at this time.

Events that expand to include populations from other schools and/or parents or other community members should be postponed and further information will be provided after March break if they will be rescheduled or cancelled. Thank you to all parents who have offered to volunteer for the book fair. We will create a new signup sheet when we reschedule Scholastic Book Fair.

We will reschedule our Parent Teacher Conferences at a later date.  Dismissal for Thursday March 19th will continue to be  EARLY DISMISSAL at 1:30 for Grades 1-6 as well as SKILL.

Kindergarten there will be NO SCHOOL.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your support as we all share in these unique times.

Highlights

Social Studies
This week in Social Studies, students continued learning about the different Indigenous cultures in Canada. Each class we highlight a different region and Indigenous group before sharing a story from that group. This week we learned all about the Subarctic and Northwest Coast regions before highlighting the Cree and Haida Indigenous groups. After sharing some important information and a story from each group, students discussed the stories and the lessons being taught in small groups. Next we will be learning about the Kootenay and Shuswap Region.

Math
In math we finished our unit on Graphing and today, students wrote their graphing test. They will be given their tests back next week. Please ask your student to bring home their Jump Math book to look and see if they have any corrections/misunderstandings to correct. Next week will be starting a new unit: Patterns and Algebra

Science
This week, we continued our Chemistry unit and looked at acids and bases before testing different solutions with litmus paper to see which ones were acids, bases, or neutral solutions. Then students learned about separating mixtures and were shown how paper chromatography works by placing different ink coloured strips in water and observing the separation of colours. Next week we will continue our chemistry unit and look at surface tension and the creation of crystals.

Phys. Ed
This week, we continued our basketball unit. Students learned proper passing and shooting technique and had the chance to play a basketball game on Thursday. Next week, we will be finishing up our basketball unit.

Buddies
This week, students played a Connect Four game and focused on helping their buddies to continue developing their addition skills.

Art
In Art, students looked at some Public Art projects and voted for which project they would like to see in our city. Students then learned about Pop Art and Andy Warhol, before beginning to create a Pop Art project focusing on Canadian Symbols.
